W.E.B. Du Bois was a Black American writer, historian, and sociologist who became one of the most important civil rights leaders of his time. He co-founded the NAACP, an organization still working for racial justice today, and wrote groundbreaking books studying the lives and history of Black Americans. He earned a Ph.D. from Harvard University, becoming the first Black American to do so.
