Susan B. Anthony was an American activist who spent her life fighting for women's right to vote, after beginning her activism in the movement to end slavery. In 1869 she co-founded the National Woman Suffrage Association with Elizabeth Cady Stanton. She traveled the country giving speeches and was once arrested simply for voting in an election, since women were not yet legally allowed to. Her decades of work helped lead to the 19th Amendment, which finally gave American women the right to vote, and in 1979 she became the first real woman featured on U.S. circulating currency, the Susan B. Anthony dollar coin.
