Rumi

1207 – 1273

1200s Persia · Poet

Rumi was a poet and spiritual teacher who lived in Persia more than 800 years ago. His poems talk about love, wonder, and connecting with something bigger than yourself, and through English translations he has become one of the best-selling poets in the United States today. Followers of his teachings were known for a spinning, meditative dance, still practiced today by the Mevlevi order, sometimes called the "whirling dervishes."
