Orville Wright, together with his older brother Wilbur, built and flew the world's first successful powered airplane at Kitty Hawk, North Carolina, in 1903. Orville was the pilot on that historic first flight, staying airborne for just 12 seconds. The brothers continued improving their designs together, launching the modern age of aviation.
