Marie Curie

Marie Curie was a scientist who discovered two new elements, polonium and radium, and pioneered early research on radioactivity. In 1903 she became the first woman ever to win a Nobel Prize, and she remains the first and only person to win Nobel Prizes in two different sciences, physics and chemistry. During World War I she developed mobile X-ray units, nicknamed "Little Curies," and drove them to the front lines herself to help doctors treat wounded soldiers. She earned her discoveries at a time when very few women were allowed to become scientists.
