Madeleine L'Engle was an American author best known for A Wrinkle in Time, a novel that mixes science, space travel, and the power of love as a family searches the universe for a missing father. The book was rejected by more than twenty publishers before it was finally printed — and then won the Newbery Medal, one of the highest honors in children's literature. She wrote dozens of books that encouraged young readers to ask big questions about the universe.
