Jonathan Swift was an Irish writer and church dean best known for Gulliver's Travels, the adventure of a traveler who visits lands of tiny people, giants, and talking horses. He was the sharpest satirist of his age, using wild, funny stories to poke at the foolishness and unfairness he saw around him. He also wrote fierce essays defending the ordinary people of Ireland.
