Johan Cruyff
1947 – 2016
Johan Cruyff was a Dutch footballer widely considered one of the greatest players in the history of the sport, famous for his vision, creativity, and a signature quick turn move that still bears his name. He led the Netherlands to the 1974 World Cup final and won multiple European titles with Ajax and Barcelona, famously wearing the number 14 instead of a conventional number and making it iconic. After his playing career, he became an influential coach whose ideas about attacking, possession-based football shaped the modern game, and Ajax later renamed its stadium the Johan Cruyff Arena in his honor.
