J. M. Barrie was a Scottish novelist and playwright best known for creating Peter Pan, the boy who never grew up. He loved dogs throughout his life, and his own big, gentle Newfoundlands helped inspire Nana, the loyal dog nanny in his most famous story. Beyond Peter Pan, he wrote many other plays and novels and was one of the most celebrated writers of his time in Britain — and he gave the rights to Peter Pan to a London children's hospital, which still receives royalties from the story today.
