Isaac Newton

Isaac Newton was an English scientist who figured out the laws of gravity and motion that explain how everything from apples to planets move. Much of this breakthrough thinking happened during 1665 and 1666, when Cambridge University closed due to a plague outbreak and a young Newton retreated to his family's farm with little to do but think. He also built one of the first working telescopes and helped invent an entire branch of math called calculus, and his discoveries are still taught in science classrooms everywhere.
