David Lynch
1946 – 2025
David Lynch was an American filmmaker who made stories look and feel like nothing else on screen, from the dreamlike TV show Twin Peaks to films like Blue Velvet and Mulholland Drive. He meditated twice a day, every day, starting in 1973, and said it gave him steady access to energy and ideas. He trained as a painter at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts in Philadelphia and kept painting, drawing, and building furniture by hand his whole life, sanding and polishing wood in his own workshop. For years he also gave short, odd daily weather reports from his studio window, first by phone to a Los Angeles radio station and later by video, always signing off by wishing people a great day. He died in January 2025.
