Christina Rossetti

1830 – 1894

1800s England · Poet

Christina Rossetti was an English poet known for richly imaginative poems like Goblin Market and for the beloved Christmas carol "In the Bleak Midwinter." She came from a talented artistic family — her brother Dante Gabriel Rossetti helped found the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood of painters, and Christina herself modeled as the Virgin Mary in several of his early paintings. She wrote poetry from a young age throughout her life, and her work blended fairy-tale imagination with deep religious faith.
