Beatrix Potter was an English author and illustrator who created The Tale of Peter Rabbit and many other beloved animal storybooks. She was also a serious mycologist who studied and illustrated fungi in scientific detail, though as a woman she wasn't permitted to attend the Linnean Society meeting where her research paper on fungal spores was eventually read on her behalf. She used money from her books to buy and protect large areas of English countryside, much of which was later given to the National Trust, preserving it for everyone to enjoy.
