Alexander Graham Bell was a Scottish-American inventor best known for patenting the telephone in 1876, changing how people could talk to each other across long distances. He was deeply interested in sound and hearing throughout his life, partly because his mother and wife were both deaf. He also worked on early flying machines, hydrofoil boats, and other inventions well beyond the telephone.
