Albert Einstein was a physicist who changed how space, time, and gravity are understood, publishing his groundbreaking theory of relativity in the early 1900s while working as an unknown patent clerk in Switzerland. He won the 1921 Nobel Prize in Physics not for relativity — still considered too controversial at the time — but for explaining the photoelectric effect.
